The world was abuzz just last week, with hype levels for Jake Paul’s bout against Tommy Fury reaching a fever pitch. The bout had been called off twice in the past, and fans were excited to see exactly what the brash Problem Child could do against a legitimate boxer. Admittedly, the opponents of said legitimate boxer had a combined record of 24 wins, 176 losses, and five draws, but TNT is indeed a legitimate boxer in his own right.

Regardless, the answer to that question was “not very much.” Paul was outclassed for long periods by Tyson Fury’s younger brother, and the Brit secured a deserved decision victory. The judge that scored the bout in favor of Paul may indeed need his eyes tested, with Fury deserving of a unanimous decision victory, but he won’t mind one bit.

But despite being paid a shedload of money for his role in the event, even the 23-year-old victor had nothing to be proud of in his performance. He claims that he wishes to be a world champion in the future, but after this bout, it’s clear that he will never reach those lofty heights.

David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant - March 25th

One man has held the super middleweight division hostage in recent years. That man is, of course, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. He is the current undisputed champion in the division. However, while he was busy losing to Dmitry Bivol and subsequently handling business with Gennady Golovkin, a whole host of contenders arrived in his division.

The WBA, WBC, and WBO all currently have interim champions awaiting their shot at boxing’s undisputed number-one draw. The WBA interim champion is Cuba’s former amateur sensation, David Morrell. The WBO interim champion is gutsy Brit John Ryder.

Finally, the WBC’s interim champion is the undefeated Mexican David Benavidez. And rather than waiting around for his shot at his compatriot, he has decided to take on a difficult challenge in the form of former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant.

The talented American was stopped by Canelo back in 2021, meaning that it was Alvarez rather than Plant that unified the division. Since that devastating defeat, he has bounced back with an impressive knockout over former WBC champ Anthony Dirrell. Betway’s boxing odds have made him a huge underdog for the upcoming bout, but he will be hoping to upset the apple cart with a victory over Benavidez, putting himself in line for a rematch with the undisputed champion in the process.

Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia - April 22nd

There are a number of super fights waiting to be made in boxing in 2023. The undisputed heavyweight championship of the world should be decided between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. The welterweight division is also waiting for Errol Spence Jr. and Terrence Crawford to square off for all the marbles at 147 pounds. And finally, the lightweight division has been waiting to see Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis square off with undisputed king Devin Haney.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see that scrap in the next few months, so we will have to settle for Davis against talented young Californian Ryan Garcia. ‘Tank’ has built up a sensational record of 28 fights, and 28 victories with 26 of those wins coming by way of knockout. He is set to take over from Canelo as the biggest star in the sport in the years to come. However, in Ryan Garcia, he has a true test lying ahead of him. While Garcia’s resume isn’t as impressive as that of his opponent, he destroyed Britain’s Luke Campbell back in 2021 and has been on a tear ever since.
