Angel Fierro continues his persistent pursuit of a World title opportunity, aiming to bolster his case as he defends his WBO NABO Lightweight title against Brayan Zammaripa on Friday, September 15. The action unfolds at the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Mexico.
Fierro (21-1-2, 17 KOs) occupies an impressive position at #4 within the WBO rankings. At 25 years old, he's set for a hometown showdown as he endeavors to enhance his reputation for delivering captivating performances.
In his recent outing, 'Tashiro' showcased his explosive prowess, achieving multiple knockdowns en route to a seventh-round stoppage victory over Eduardo Estela in Culiacan. This marked his fifth knockout in the last six fights, a streak he intends to build upon against Zammaripa (13-1, 4 KOs). Hailing from Baja California, Zammaripa has secured ten consecutive wins since his sole loss in 2016.
"I am thrilled to return to my hometown, Tijuana," expressed Fierro. "Yet, I am even more enthusiastic because a World Title shot is within close reach. My focus is unwavering on providing an outstanding show for my community."
Zammaripa shared his anticipation for this long-awaited opportunity, saying, "This is the moment I've been waiting for. I hold respect for Tashiro, but this is my time. While I may be entering his territory, this is my domain. A Civil War is on the horizon for September 15, and I'll be leaving with Tashiro's belt. Viva Mexico."
Erika Cruz (15-2, 3 KOs) will also make her return to action on the same card following her enthralling clash with Amanda Serrano for the undisputed Featherweight title in New York in February. 'Dinamita' aims to reestablish her journey towards regaining World champion status, contesting a ten-round match against Melissa Oddessa Parker (6-1, 2 KOs).
"I am fully prepared," assured Cruz. "On that night, the national guard and I will be commemorating our Independence Day with another victory for Dinamita!"
