Gabriela Fundora will not be diving into an undisputed title fight with Gabriela Alaniz just yet. Instead, Fundora is set to defend her IBF flyweight title against Daniela Asenjo, as reported by Camilo Zamora of DSPORTS Chile.
Daniela Asenjo (16-3-3, 2 KO) has never competed at 112 pounds. Most of her career has been spent in the super flyweight division, where she once challenged for a WBA title. Her last two fights were at 118 pounds, where she defeated the undefeated Angela Lukas to claim the WBC silver belt and successfully defended it against Victoria Torres Canul.
Weighing in at 116 pounds for the Lukas fight and consistently making the super flyweight limit with ease, Asenjo should not face any significant issues with the weight cut. Meanwhile, Gabriela Fundora (13-0, 6 KO) made a stunning entrance last October by dominating Arely Mucino to claim the IBF flyweight belt. After a potential clash with then-unified champion Marlen Esparza fell through, Fundora returned in January to stop Christina Cruz on the undercard of Jaime Munguia vs John Ryder.
While the boxing world eagerly awaits a showdown between Fundora and Alaniz, it’s promising to see Fundora back in action following a one-fight 2023.
