Ryan Garcia was expelled from the World Boxing Council on Thursday due to his repeated use of racial slurs against Black people and disparaging comments about Muslims during a social media livestream.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced the decision on the social media platform X.
“Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization,” Sulaiman posted. “We reject any form of discrimination.”
Last month, Garcia faced a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission, which also declared his April 20 victory over Devin Haney a no-contest following a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs.
A publicist for Garcia did not immediately respond to request for comment regarding the WBC’s action. A representative for Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Garcia, also did not immediately respond to request for comment.
