Former IBF Lightweight World Champion Richard “RC” Commey (30-5-1, 27 KOs) is set to make his highly anticipated return to the ring after a two-year hiatus. Commey will face an opponent to be finalized in an eight-round welterweight bout on Sunday, February 23, at Kings Theater in Brooklyn, New York. This fight is part of the "The Return" card, presented by World Kid Promotions, and will be streamed live on www.bxngtv.com.
Commey isn't the only notable return on the card. Sadam “World Kid” Ali (27-3, 14 KOs), a former world champion and Commey's close friend, will also make his comeback after a 5 ½-year absence. Ali, the former WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion, will face Victoriano Antonio Santillan (13-7-2, 8 KOs), the former IBO Welterweight Champion, in an eight-round main event.
Friendship and Mentorship:
The bond between Commey and Ali is integral to their respective returns. Commey shared, “I have a great relationship with Sadam. I was training in his gym when I wasn’t world champ and I’m still training there. We are very good friends – like family – especially when we talk about boxing.”
Ali, who previously captured the WBO Junior Middleweight title in 2017 by upsetting Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden, is also promoting the event through his company, World Kid. This will be the first event promoted by Ali’s company since 2012, and it's set to take place in Brooklyn, where Ali's legacy was made.
Commey’s Comeback:
The Ghana-native, who fights out of The Bronx, had a standout 2019, winning the IBF Lightweight title with a second-round knockout of Isa Chaniev and successfully defending it with an eighth-round stoppage of Raymundo Beltran. However, due to life and managerial issues, Commey has been inactive for the last two years. Now fully resolved, he’s looking to make a strong return with a series of fights leading up to a final career run.
“I had to clear my mind,” Commey said about his absence. “This is the first of many fights to follow, but I still have to look at my performance that will tell me about upcoming fights.”
Co-Featured Event:
In the co-main event, Adam Saleh (1-0-1, 0 KOs), a YouTube sensation with nearly 5 million subscribers, will take on an opponent to be announced in a four-round junior welterweight bout. Saleh’s popularity has already gained attention, and his ring debut is sure to draw an enthusiastic crowd.
Undefeated Prospect:
Khalid Twaiti (14-0, 5 KOs), an undefeated bantamweight prospect from Brooklyn, will also be on the card. Twaiti, a runner-up in the 2015 USA National Championships, is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over Emmanuel Rodriguez in October, and he aims to continue his rise through the ranks.
Additional Undercard:
The undercard includes several rising talents:
Chiara Dituri (9-2, 3 KOs), a junior lightweight from Brooklyn, will compete in a six-round match.
Jahanze Riswan will make his pro debut in a junior middleweight four-rounder.
Mike Boyle, a Yonkers firefighter, will also make his pro debut in a light heavyweight four-rounder.
This exciting night of boxing in Brooklyn is not to be missed as Commey and Ali look to prove they are back and ready for big things in 2025.
