Efetobor “Nigerian Pit Bull” Apochi Signs with Christy Martin Promotions, Eyes Cruiserweight Title

Christy Martin of Christy Martin Promotions proudly announces the signing of power-punching cruiserweight contender Efetobor “Nigerian Pit Bull” Apochi (12-3, 12 KOs) to a promotional contract. With devastating knockout power and a relentless fighting style, Apochi is determined to make a strong comeback and chase a world title shot in the near future.

A Fighter’s Journey: From Nigeria to the World Stage

Born and raised in Ughelli, Nigeria, Apochi pursued a degree in microbiology at the Federal University of Technology Owerri before stepping into the boxing world at the late age of 21. His early years were marked by over 700 street fights, which shaped his raw, aggressive fighting style.

Apochi quickly made a name for himself as an amateur, capturing a silver medal at the 2011 All-Africa Games and serving as the captain of the Nigerian Boxing Team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he scored a stunning victory over current IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight Champion Jai Opetaia in the quarterfinals. His amateur career ended with a 64-8 record, showcasing his elite-level talent.

Professional Career and Comeback Plans

Turning pro in 2017, Apochi moved to Houston, Texas, to train under renowned coach Ronnie Shields. He stormed through his first 10 fights, all by knockout, before suffering a controversial split-decision loss to the undefeated Brandon Glanton in 2021. His three career losses have all come via razor-thin decisions against top contenders, reinforcing his reputation as a dangerous and competitive force in the division.

Now, with Christy Martin Promotions, Apochi sees a path back to the top.

“Signing with Christy Martin Promotions is right on time,” said Apochi. “My spirit has never been broken. Even though I’ve had some tough fights, they have only sharpened my craft. CMP is giving me the opportunity to make a comeback, and I want to fight in a WBC title eliminator as soon as possible. By the end of the year, I want to be fighting for the world title.”

A Strong Partnership with Trainer Jarrod Houston

Currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, Apochi has built a deep connection with trainer Jarrod Houston at Title Boxing Club on Church Street.

“The bond between Jarrod and me is like family,” said Apochi. “From the moment we connected, we recognized something in each other that we hadn’t seen before. From the start, he saw the light in me—he saw that I am a world champion.”

Christy Martin: "We Are Coming for the Cruiserweight Belts"

Legendary boxer-turned-promoter Christy Martin is thrilled to have Apochi on board and believes he has the potential to shake up the cruiserweight division.

“CMP is very excited to be in belt-hunting season with Apochi,” said Martin. “All Cruiserweight Champions need to know—we are coming!”

With a new promotional backing, a hungry mindset, and his devastating knockout power, Apochi is ready to prove that he belongs among the best in the world.
