Fresh off a dominant second-round knockout victory over Jerell Nettles on February 2nd, undefeated Brooklyn heavyweight prospect Pryce Taylor (6-0, 4 KOs) is set to fight professionally outside the United States for the first time this Saturday, March 1.
Taylor will take on southpaw Trevor Kotara (4-3-1, 1 KO) from Mesa, Arizona, in a six-round bout at Coliseo Tomas Dones in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. The event, co-promoted by Salita Promotions—Taylor’s promoter—and Fresh Productions, will be streamed live on DAZN.
“I’ve never fought in Puerto Rico before, but I’ve vacationed there and loved it,” said the 6’4”, 265-pound Taylor. “I know some Spanish, and I know the fans there are passionate about boxing. I want to show them my skills, power, and agility—I’m going to move like a welterweight. I always train to go 12 rounds, so I’ll be ready.”
Expanding his fan base beyond New York and New Jersey is a key goal for Taylor. He also welcomes the challenge of facing another southpaw, a style he has specifically trained against since suffering an amateur loss to a left-handed opponent. “I fought a southpaw in my third pro fight and got the win. I’ve sparred plenty of them because I made it a priority after that loss,” he added.
A former college basketball player, Taylor had a decorated amateur career, compiling a 60-11 record that included two New York Golden Gloves titles and four runner-up finishes at the USA National Championships.
Taylor is managed by NYC boxing attorney Keith Sullivan, a former Deputy Commissioner for the New York State Athletic Commission. Sullivan’s stable also includes three-time, two-division world champion Miyo Yoshida (18-5), undefeated Bronx NYPD officer and WBA No. 3-rated welterweight Nisa Rodriguez (3-0, 1 KO), and world-ranked welterweight contender Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (14-0, 11 KOs), the reigning WBA Continental Champion from Limerick, Ireland. Donovan is co-managed by Sullivan and former world middleweight champion Andy Lee, who also serves as his trainer.
Taylor’s international debut marks another step in his promising rise as a heavyweight contender. Fans can catch the action live on DAZN this Saturday night.
