Unified WBA, WBO, and Ring Magazine Minimumweight World Champion Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo (11-0, 8 KOs) is deep in training camp ahead of his upcoming 12-round title defense against Edwin “Canito” Cano (13-2-1, 4 KOs) of Querétaro, Mexico.
The fight will serve as the co-main event for the much-anticipated rematch between WBC interim lightweight champion William "El Camarón" Zepeda (31-0, 26 KOs) and former world champion Tevin "2X" Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs). The March 29 event will take place at Poliforum Benito Juárez in Cancún, Mexico, and will be streamed live worldwide on DAZN.
Collazo Focused and Ready for Battle
Speaking at a recent media workout in Puerto Rico, Collazo expressed confidence in his preparation and his ability to retain his world titles.
“This camp is going great. As always, I am giving 150%. I’ve done over 130 rounds of sparring and focused heavily on strategy. I was supposed to fight Cano in November, so we’ve been ready for him. I’m feeling great.”
Collazo acknowledges the challenge ahead but believes his experience as a reigning champion gives him the edge.
“Cano is ranked No. 3 by the WBO. He wants to be a world champion, like everyone else. This is my fifth title defense, and many have tried to dethrone me—this won’t be an exception. Cano is a hell of a fighter, but this is my time.”
Puerto Rico vs. Mexico: A Classic Rivalry
The Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry has produced some of the most electrifying fights in boxing history, and Collazo is eager to add another chapter.
“This fight is just another one for the list. I know Cano will have the full support of the Mexican fans, and they’re all waiting for me. But I’m ready to put on a great show for both Puerto Rican and Mexican boxing fans.”
With his unbeaten record and an eye on further unification, Collazo is determined to keep his momentum going and continue his reign at 105 pounds.
Will Collazo remain undefeated, or can Cano pull off a major upset? Tune in March 29 on DAZN to find out!
