Plant Defends Interim WBA Super Middleweight Title Against Reséndiz
Former world champion Caleb Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) returns to defend his Interim WBA Super Middleweight Title against Mexico’s hard-hitting Armando Reséndiz (15-2, 11 KOs) in the 12-round main event.
The 32-year-old Plant, a former IBF super middleweight champion, has proven himself among the sport’s elite with thrilling victories and highlight-reel knockouts. Now training under Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, Plant looks to send a statement in his first title defense after bouncing back from losses to Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez with a knockout win over Trevor McCumby last September.
“I’ve been grinding and preparing for this moment,” said Plant. “No setback, money, or success can change my hunger for the sport. On May 31, I’m coming to show I’m still one of the best in the world.”
Reséndiz, 26, made headlines with a 10th-round TKO over former champion Jarrett Hurd in 2023 and is eager for his biggest opportunity yet. “I’m thankful for this chance against a former champion,” said Reséndiz. “I will prepare as hard as possible and dedicate this win to Mexico.”
Jermall Charlo Moves Up to 168 to Face Thomas LaManna
In the co-main event, undefeated two-division world champion Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) makes his super middleweight debut in a 10-round battle against veteran Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs).
Charlo, 34, has reigned as a world champion at both 154 and 160 pounds, with notable wins over Julian Williams, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and Jose Benavidez Jr. Now, he’s focused on securing a title at 168 pounds. “I took time to rebuild myself, and now I’m locked in,” said Charlo. “The journey continues, and I can’t wait to show my fans what I’ve been working on.”
LaManna, 33, has been on a nine-fight win streak since challenging Erislandy Lara for a middleweight title in 2021. A victory over Charlo would be career-defining. “This is a life-changing fight,” said LaManna. “A win proves I belong among the best.”
