Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) will take another leap toward boxing legitimacy when he faces former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) in a 10-round cruiserweight bout on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The fight will be contested at a 200-pound limit and broadcast live on DAZN pay-per-view.
Most Valuable Promotions, co-promoting the event alongside Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, revealed the matchup exclusively to ESPN on Friday.
“This is more than a fight — it’s a statement,” Paul said. “Chávez Jr. might be Mexican by blood, but I fight with the heart and will of a true warrior. On June 28, I’m knocking him out and doing what he never could — make Chávez Sr. proud.”
The announcement follows the collapse of Paul’s proposed megafight with Canelo Alvarez, which unraveled in favor of Canelo’s new four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. Talks with Gervonta “Tank” Davis also fizzled after Davis’ controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March, setting up a likely rematch instead.
With two marquee showdowns slipping away, Paul set his sights on Chávez Jr. — a former world champion and son of a boxing legend — for what’s expected to be another high-profile spectacle blending showmanship with serious stakes.
