Following Canelo Alvarez’s unanimous points victory over William Scull earlier this month, it has now been confirmed that the 34-year-old Mexican will next take on Terence Crawford in what promises to be a titanic battle to become the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world.
The attractive contest has been set for September and will take place at the Allegiant Stadium, in front of what will surely be a sell-out crowd. 37-year-old Crawford, who has an astounding 41-0 record, will go up two weight classes to face Alvarez.
This is a bout that will excite fight fans around the world, and if you want to back your favorite with a bet, then this Bet365 promo will help make that wager even more enticing. It is going to be a fight watched by millions globally, and you can be sure millions will be placed on the outcome, so why not get your bet in early and then sit back and cheer on your fighter to victory?
Alvarez’s win over Scull was incredibly, the Guadaljara-born superstar’s 67th fight, and proved to be his 63rd win. He famously lost his first bout back in 2013, beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. by a majority decision; his only other defeat then came in 2022 to Russian Dmitry Bivol, and he has since won six in a row.
Should Crawford overcome Alvarez, he’d become the first fighter to become undisputed champion in three weight classes. The total purse for the fight is a mouthwatering $200 million, with Alvarez netting $150 million and Crawford $50 million.
Canelo Alvarez is currently the slight favorite, but for many, it’s too close to call, and some have dubbed the encounter the ‘fight of the century’; and it would be hard to argue against such hyperbole.
Of the two, Alvarez is undeniably the bigger draw and the experienced fighter is now considered likely to become the first billion-dollar boxer, according to his business manager Richard Schaefer, who made a case for his client’s worth to the sport of boxing.
“Canelo is, without any question, the smartest businessman in boxing I have ever met.”
“And we are going to get him over that next hurdle… He’s going to be the first fighter to break the billion-dollar net worth.”
“I have zero questions about it. When? Probably next year.” Schaefer added.
Following his win over Scull, Alvarez was asked about how he felt following the clash with the 32-year-old Cuban.
“I feel great, I win,”
“I tried to put on a great show but to put on a great show, you need both fighters but at the end of the day, a win is a win.”
On whether Crawford would present a similar challenge to Scull, Alvarez added.
“I hope not,”
“I hope not. The people deserve a good fight.”
It seems likely that Crawford will prove a much sterner test; we are, after all, talking about a man who has not lost a fight since his professional boxing debut way back in 2008, with 31 of his 41 fight wins being decided by a knockout.
