Though Katie Taylor has come out on top in her two previous clashes with her opponent Amanda Serrano, the 38-year-old Irish fighter has had to vigorously defend her successes following claims made by her long-time foe.
On July 12th, Taylor and Serrano complete a trilogy of encounters at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and it’s sure to be a true epic, not least because of the manner in which the last two bouts ended.

The first of the three Taylor-Serrano fights took place at Madison Square Garden in April 2022 and resulted in a split decision win for Taylor, and the rematch came last November in Texas, this time the result being by a unanimous decision.
In between those two encounters, Taylor lost her one and only fight to date, that coming at the hands of Chantelle Cameron in Dublin in May 2023. Despite this, Taylor still enjoys a very strong overall record of 18-1.
Serrano is the much more experienced competitor as a professional, and two of the only three losses she has suffered over the course of a 51-fight career were against Taylor, which is probably why those defeats have stung her so badly.
Indeed, the first loss to Taylor was her first defeat in a decade, which goes some way to illustrating Serrano’s dominance up to that point. Serrano had accused Taylor of headbutting her during that second loss, a claim that her opponent still vigorously denies, commenting on the slight.
"She has to respect the decisions. If you look at those fights, you can clearly see that I won those two fights. It's insane. It's ridiculous, really. It's really, really insane that she thinks she won those fights.”
"Of course I won. It was an amazing fight. We've had two of the best fights in the history of boxing. Two very, very close fights, but I think that the margins at the top are always very tiny, but I did come out as the deserved winner." Taylor added.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, and in keeping with a boxer’s mentality, Serrano feels otherwise, and despite falling twice to Katie Taylor, she still feels that there is unfinished business to deal with.
"She has to prove to everybody and to herself that she beat me, convincingly. Both those fights. And I need to go out there and prove to those judges like, 'come on - what are you watching?' So it's going to be a great fight between both of us. We're not going to disappoint." Serrano insisted.
Ahead of the fight, a disagreement has emerged in relation to the format of their upcoming bout, with Serrano wanting to fight 12 three-minute rounds, while Taylor insists on the ten two-minute rounds that are in keeping with the WBC.
The last two fights went the distance, and you would not bet against this latest one going the same way.
