WBC super featherweight world champion O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster aims to defend his throne against the newest challenger. Foster, representing Orange, Texas, is set for his second world title defense against Abraham “El Super” Nova on Friday, February 16 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. This event, promoted by Top Rank in collaboration with Murphys Boxing and 12 Rounds Promotion, will unveil ticket details and undercard fights soon. The Foster-Nova clash will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Foster (21-2, 10 KOs) remains undefeated in 11 fights since his split decision loss to Rolando Chinea in July 2016. He returned to the ring in December 2017, reinvigorated and guided by esteemed trainer Bobby Benton. Since relocating to Houston for training under Benton, Foster has fulfilled the potential he showed in an amateur career of over 100 fights, boasting a 2010 National PAL title and an alternate spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team. He claimed the WBC world title in February and defended it eight months later with a 12th-round knockout over Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez. In November, Foster signed a long-term promotional deal with Top Rank. Expressing his excitement, Foster said, “Fighting at Madison Square Garden has always been my dream, and who better to make it happen than Top Rank? Watching legendary fighters at MSG as a kid inspired me to want to be part of its historic legacy. I’m ready to showcase my skills and continue proving I’m the best in the world.” Nova (23-1, 16 KOs), hailing from Puerto Rico and raised in Albany, New York, amassed nearly 200 amateur fights, defeating names like Frank Martin, Richardson Hitchins, and Nahir Albright. He joined forces with Top Rank in early 2020 after starting his career with wins in various countries and club shows across the Northeast United States. Though facing a setback with a knockout by champion Robeisy Ramirez in June 2022, Nova bounced back at super featherweight, securing victories over Adam Lopez and former world champion Jonathan Romero.
