Originally scheduled to fight Ronald Gavril, Munguia (44-1, 35 KO) now faces Surace (25-0-2, 4 KO), a natural middleweight with modest power and a record of eight wins over opponents with .500 or better records. Munguia’s choice to face Surace is seen as a step down from his previous matchup with Erik Bazinyan, a credible bounce-back opponent. However, this bout will be Munguia’s fourth in 2024—his most active year since 2018—giving fans some forgiveness for a lower-stakes fight in an otherwise eventful year.
