Gervonta Davis, the undefeated boxing sensation, is set to defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on December 14 in Houston, according to an announcement made Sunday evening. Hailing from Baltimore, Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) holds ESPN's No. 8 pound-for-pound ranking and is coming off an impressive eighth-round knockout of Frank Martin in June. This fight marked his return to the ring after serving a 44-day jail sentence last summer for a violation related to a 2020 hit-and-run incident. Initially, Davis, 29, was in talks for a high-profile matchup against future Hall of Famer Vasiliy Lomachenko this fall. However, after negotiations fell through, Davis secured a less high-profile fight against Roach. Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs), the current WBA champion at 130 pounds and ranked No. 5 by ESPN, will move up in weight to challenge Davis, entering the bout as a significant underdog.
