Rashida Ellis, the 2022 World Amateur Champion and one of the most accomplished American amateurs of the last decade, is officially turning professional. The gold medalist has signed a long-term management deal with Trifon Petrov, who will oversee her journey in the pro ranks.
A Coveted Signing
Ellis, known for her slick skills and relentless aggression, was highly sought after once she announced her decision to turn pro. She represented Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics, where she suffered a controversial split-decision loss to Caroline Dubois. Now, she’s determined to dominate the professional scene.
“I am excited to make the switch to the paid ranks,” said Ellis. “My goal is to become a world champion as a professional, just as I was in the amateurs. I’m coming for everyone—I want all the belts.”
From Olympic Controversy to Knockout Mindset
Ellis has experienced her share of disputed decisions, particularly at the Tokyo Games. This time, she plans to leave no doubt in the ring.
“I’m not planning to let many fights go the distance,” she stated. “There’s no more headgear to save you all.”
A Proven Champion with Big Ambitions
Petrov, who also manages Tokyo Olympian Euri Cedeño and Paris 2024 bronze medalist Cristian Pinales, believes Ellis has the ability to capture a world title in record time.
“Rashida is amazing, and I’m thrilled to have signed her,” said Petrov. “I’ve watched her beat the best in the amateurs, including current IBF world champion Beatriz Ferreira and Olympic silver medalist Wenlu Yang. She can win a world title within three fights—she’s that good.”
A Star in the Making
Ellis, currently a promotional free agent, is trained by former Team USA Olympic coach Jeff Mays in San Antonio. She will make her professional debut on a Red Owl Boxing event in June, streamed globally on DAZN.
“We are thrilled to have Rashida on the platform,” said James Bartley of Red Owl Boxing. “She’s one of my favorite fighters, and it’s an honor to have her debut on Red Owl Boxing and DAZN.”
With an elite amateur pedigree and an aggressive mindset for the pros, Rashida Ellis is ready to shake up women’s boxing—starting this June.
