Chavez Jr lists Cotto, Froch, Golovkin, and Ward as possible opponents

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr took to Twitter and Instagram to show the fans who he is thinking about facing next. Chavez Jr showed pictures of him with four possible opponents. Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin, Carl Froch, and Andre Ward. It appears that Chavez Jr will be facing one of those four guys for his next scheduled bout which will be sometime this fall.

Chavez Jr has been having issues with Promoter Bob Arum though, and some of these fights aren’t likely to happen anytime this year. Chavez Jr already turned down a very lucrative deal to face Gennady Golovkin in July due to what he claims was a problem with money and signing a contract extension with Top Rank. If that continues to be the problem with Chavez Jr then we may not see him at all in 2014. Arum wants to deal with Chavez Sr while Chavez Jr wants Arum to deal with his manger.

If it all gets worked out over at Top Rank then it’s quite likely four opponents gets turned down to two very fast. Andre Ward is dealing with court issues with his promoter that could keep him out for the remainder of 2014. Cotto is way to small for Chavez Jr, who was having a hard time making 168 in his bout against Vera last September. Chavez Jr had to move the weight limit on the fight twice. Being that Cotto could only get to 155 for his Martinez bout it's unlikely they would reach a weight agreement.

So with Cotto and Ward likely out of the mix only Froch and Golovkin remain. Both could probably get done for an October fight. Golovkin though is fighting Danny Geale on July 26th. Should he win then there would have to be a very fast negotiation process to get him to fight in October. Or they would have to push the fight until November. At this point, Carl Froch seems like the best option for Chavez Jr. He’s available in October and really wants to fight in Las Vegas.
