From the cancellation of its previously scheduled event comes a new date and a brand new headliner for Star Boxing's 'Rockin Fights At the Paramount' series—and with the new date, potential for a wider audience given what else is going on in the New York fight scene that weekend.
The 'Rockin Fights 27' installment will take place July 28 at the famed Paramount Theater in the Huntington section of Long Island, New York. Topping the show is Hicksville's Anthony "Showtime" Karperis in a 10-round super lightweight bout versus a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
Event handlers are working on finalizing the full undercard, with a formal announcement expected in the coming days.
This show was originally intended to take place June 15, with series and local favorite Cletus Seldin due to headline versus Mike Arnaoutis. However, the entire card was scrapped after Seldin—who was a ranked WBC welterweight contender and enrolled in its Clean Boxing Program—was a medical scratch after testing positive for high levels of testosterone.
While some will view the new main event as a bit of a downgrade, the timing of the show presents major opportunities for those involved in the show. One night later comes the anticipated Showtime-televised showdown between unbeaten lightweight champion Mikey Garcia and former four-division titlist Adrien Broner. Their clash headlines a full bill at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, barely an hour or so from the historic town at the tip of Suffolk County.
Karperis is a series favorite and comes in riding a three-fight win streak, including a 4th round knockout of Scott Burrell in the March edition of the Rockin Fights.
