Amir Khan on whether he wants to fight Kell Brook

Amir Khan says he still wants to fight Kell Brook, but admits that now is not the right time.

The former-two division world champion recently announced that he intends to return to boxing, but doesn’t think a fight with his bitter rival is feasible until both of them get back to their winning ways.

“For me and Kell Brook, at the moment, I think the fight could be bigger if we both get a couple of wins,” Khan told Sky Sports. “It will be a big fight now, but it will be a massive fight if we wait. 100 percent, I would love that fight.”

The 30-year-old Khan (31-4, 19 KO’s), a 2004 Olympian from Bolton, underwent serious hand surgery last year in which surgeons removed a bone from his hip and transplanted it into his hand. He was eyeing a return to boxing earlier this year but, has been sidelined by a string of personal issues.

In a series of fiery tweets, Khan announced in August that he and wife Faryal Makhdoom had separated, then accused her of cheating on him with heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua. Embarrassingly, the alleged texts between Makhdoom and Joshua turned out to be completely illegitimate, and Khan was forced to apologize.

Both fighters have since buried the hatchet.

“A lot has happened in my life, with personal issues and family drama and everything with the hand operation,” he added. “I think it’s time now where I come back and shine. I’m only 30 years old. People forget how old I am. I’m at the peak of my career now.”

Although Khan isn’t likely to fight again until 2018, he wants to get at least a tune-up fight in the U.K. before the end of the year.

“I can’t wait to get back into the ring, and I want to fight [in] December.”
