Anthony Joshua and Carlos Takam fight Saturday Oct 28th, live from the 70,000 seat Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The fight will be for the IBF World Heavyweight Title. The main event will air live on Showtime boxing starting at 5pm ET. Joshua, was expected to put his belts on the line against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev but an injury to Pulev during sparring forced hime to pull out. Takam, who hasn't fought since June, was on standby as soon as Joshua's bout against Pulev was announced.
We last seen Anthony Joshua in an amazing fight against Wladimir Klitschko when he won by TKO. A win over Takam would give Joshua a possible unification bout against Joseph Parker, the current WBO heavyweight champion, or Deontay Wilder, who has held the WBC heavyweight title since 2015.
Carlos Takam fought twice this year against Marcin Rekowski and Ivica Bacurin, winning both bouts by KO. He has three loses, one against Joseph Parker in 2016 by a UD. Also against Alexander Povetkin who knocked out Takam in the 10th round.
Carlos Takam is a stand in, sometime with these type of fight we see a shocking unexpected result. However I don’t see this happening here. Look Anthony Joshua showed us A LOT in the Klitschko fight. He can take a punch, get up, come back and win by a KO. Thats not easy to do… that's almost impossible to do against Wladimir Klitschko. Carlos Takam, does not stand a chance here, Joshua will knockout him out within five rounds.
What are the boxing betting odds?
Joshua – 1/50
Takam – 13/1
Draw – 33/1
Joshua is the odds-on favorite to be named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY), with the ceremony taking place in Liverpool on December 17th. If the 28-year-old Englishman does win SPOTY, which is voted for by the public and has been handed out annually since 1954, he would become just the fifth different boxer (and sixth overall) to do so. Betway Insider, Alan Alger said: “AJ is a very solid shot to be crowned this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year, and it looks unlikely that Takam will put a spanner in the works. Even if Takam springs a surprise, it’s likely AJ would still remain favorite. The public won’t be forgetting his monumental victory over Wladimir Klitschko too quickly, and it’s that bout that cemented his place as SPOTY favorite.”
