Former world champion Carlos Baldomir facing 20 years behind bars for sexually abusing his daughter

Former world champion Carlos Baldomir, who has been jailed since November 2016 in Santa Fe, Argentina, for alleged sexual abuse against his daughter, is now facing 20 years behind bars.

"The facts began being investigated by prosecutors Omar De Pedro and MarĂa Lucila Nuzzo, and then the file was transferred to the Special Prosecutor's Unit for Gender, Family, and Sexual Violence," prosecutor Alejandra Del Rio Ayala said via BoxingScene.com

"The crimes began to be committed in 2008 when the girl was less than seven years old. According to the story of the victim, they occurred in the house she shared with her father and in which the mother of the minor and other siblings lived in the city of Santa Fe. The girl explained that the abuses were maintained over time and also consumed in other places. On at least two occasions, they occurred while the victim and her father were moving in a car, and even in the presence of other people."

Baldomir was officially charged on December 26, 2017, following a year-long investigation into a complaint filed by the victim's mother.

Baldomir (49-16-6, 15 KO's) scored an upset victory over Zab Judah by unanimous decision to capture the WBC welterweight world title in January 2006. He made one defense the following July when he stopped the late Arturo Gatti inside nine rounds, but his luck ran out in November when he was virtually shut out by Floyd Mayweather Jr., who earned a shutout on two of the three judges' scorecards, in a unanimous decision rout.

Following the loss to Mayweather, Baldomir moved up to 154-pounds to vie for a vacant world title, but was once again outclassed -- this time by the late Vernon Forrest, who scored the unanimous decision win. His last big fight on American television took place in 2010, and it ended with a colossal sixth-round knockout loss at the hands of Canelo Alvarez on the undercard of Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Baldomir retired in 2014 after dropping three of his last four fights, including a loss in September 2012 to former middleweight world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio.
