A once-prized prospect is returning to the ring later this year.
Puerto Rican Olympian Felix Verdejo will take on Mexican journeyman Yardley Armenta Cruz on Saturday, November 10 at Mario 'Quijote' Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo as part of DIRECTV Boxing Nights: Night of Champions in association with Diamante Promotions.
The 25-year-old Verdejo (25-1, 15 KO's) suffered the first professional defeat of his career in March when he was dropped and stopped by Ines Antonio Lozada Torres in a huge upset.
Despite calls for Verdejo, who lost out on a mandatory title shot against former titleholder Terry Flanagan following a 2016 motorcycle accident, to replace longtime trainer Ricky Marquez, who also serves as his manager, the partnership will remain intact for this fight. Moreover, Marquez has brought on board veterans Evangelista Cotto as a co-trainer and Angel "Memo" Heredia as strength & conditioning coach.
