Erislandy Lara, the native of Cuba will take on Ramon Alvarez, Canelo Alvarez brother. This might be as close as revenge Lara will get to his controversial loss to Canelo Alvarez, five years ago. This fight will take place this Saturday @ Minneapolis Armory, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. The bout will air live on Fox starting at 10pm ET.
We last saw Erislandy Lara on March 2nd against Brian Carlos Castano where the fight ended in a draw, Scores, Julie Lederman 114-114 | John McKaie 115-113 | Kevin Morgan 113-115. He also lost against Jarrett Hurd in a close split decision back in April of 2018. To be honest Lara has not looked that sharp in his last few fights. Struggling to impress and put together combinations. Erislandy Lara is less mobile and more entertaining as he is setting down on his punches.
Ramon Alvarez has a pretty good resume fighting Omar Chavez, Brandon Rios, Antonio Margarito and Johnny Navarrete. In his last outing he fought Jose Carlos Paz winning a split decision, scores Martin Canizalez 96-94 | Luis Lamadrid 96-94 | Bartholome Ortiz 94-96.
This should be an entertaining fight. Lara is punching more and fighting on the inside. Ramon Alvarez is coming with everything he’s got. This is a perfect set up for a good old fashion boxing phone booth fight. According to many boxing betting sites it will be his best opportunity to win a world title and achieve a win against a former champion.
“This fight against Ramon Alvarez is personal for me, as I have history with the Alvarez family,” Lara said. “Expect another great fight and a spectacular performance.” - Erislandy Lara
