Unbeaten Lucas Bahdi calls out Lomachenko: He’s hittable!

A prospect with just eight bouts under his belt has called out one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world.

Crazy?

Not to Lucas Bahdi. He is serious.

Bahdi believes he has what it takes to beat unified lightweight world titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko right now.

Bahdi (8-0, 8 KO’s), 26, of Ontario, Canada, a three-time amateur champion, who competes between junior welterweight and welterweight, told FightNights.com that Lomachenko is just like any other fighter.

“Lomachenko is hittable,” Bahdi said. “(Jorge) Linares hit him with that straight right hand right up the middle as he was coming in. If I hit Lomachenko with that, he’d still be sleeping.”

Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO’s), 31, a Ukraine native training out of Oxnard, California, owns three of the four 135-pound world title belts, and is coming off a lopsided unanimous decision win against 2012 Olympian Luke Campbell last August.

Bahdi has yet to see the third round as a professional, but said he is not worried.

“I’ve been getting rounds in sparring with world-class fighters,” he continued. “To be honest, I don’t think (Yuriorkis) Gamboa would see the third round with me. A guy like (Gervonta) Davis is hittable and beatable, too.”

Bahdi’s manager is also former 154-pound fighter Phil Lo Greco, who has known him since he was 14 years old and is very high on his young pupil.

“All the promoters here locally wanted to sign him and grab him, but he doesn’t trust anybody,” Lo Greco said. “This kid wants to go fast. “He wants to face Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Teofimo Lopez. It’s my job to help him get there. He’s fighting next month. It will be his ninth fight in nine months.”

Lo Greco, who went 28-4 with 15 knockouts as a pro, also told FightNights.com that Bahdi will get a step-up fight in May.

“Everyone is highly interested in Bahdi,” he added. “I am going to be promoting a fight for him in Niagara Falls, Canada; we’re looking at landing a tv date here, and for a regional belt.”
