Tyson Fury: "I am a prizefighter but it is going to cost if you want me"

If you thought Tyson Fury had retired, then you might be left feeling a little mistaken.

Indeed, while the Gypsy King is yet to confirm a new bout, or confirm that he would get back into the ring for a professional contest, it does seem that he could be willing to do so, as he quoted one of the most famous phrases from film history.

Now, while many have had a live bet during his fight with Dillian Whyte in which he floored the Brit in front of a packed-out O2 Arena in London, it seems that if the money is right, we could witness Fury back in the ring after all.

The 33-year-old, who is the undefeated WBC heavyweight champion has continued to play down any rumors that have appeared regarding a mega fight that could take place between him and the winner of a rematch between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.

However, he has since quoted the phrase “Show me the money!” from the Jerry Maguire film, by claiming he “will be back in the ring 100%”.

He referred to his promoter, Frank Warren, and stated that he would be the man to make anything happen in regard to boxing, before telling everyone that wanted to see him put his gloves on back in a boxing ring that they “better have a big chequebook”, because a fight with the Gypsy King involved is “going to cost”.

He also stated that while he continues to train twice a day, each day, he is “a prize fighter” and “fights for prizes”. If he does not have a carrot dangling on a stick in front of him, then it would seem unlikely that punters who use online betting platforms will ever be able to place a wager on him in another professional fight.

Nonetheless, that is not to say that it definitely will not happen in the future.

The Gypsy King is one of the biggest characters in the sport at the moment and has been one of the most impressive to compete in recent history. It really would not be a surprise if a promoter or a fighter who really wanted to touch gloves with the undefeated WBC heavyweight champion would make it happen.

Of course, it will ultimately all boil down to whether Fury wants the fight or not. As he suggests, he is quite happy going through retirement and seems to be enjoying life at home in Morecombe. However, with the fighter continuing to train, perhaps he will get that unscratchable itch that will keep niggling at him until he finally does lace his boots and gloves, and step back in the ring?

There are plenty of offers around for him, with one from UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou in what has billed as a ‘clash of the titans’, while he has also made mention of appearing at a WWE event, which could be at SummerSlam towards the end of July.
