Renowned trainer Robert Garcia says he’d be interested in coaching Errol Spence for his next fight. Robert believes he could help Spence, 33, and he feels it would be good for him to train at his gym alongside Mexican fighters.
Former unified welterweight champion Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) is rumored to have recently parted ways with his longtime coach, Derrick James, following his loss to Terence Crawford last year and got a huge fanbase involved in free boxing picks.
Spence is one of the options for WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora’s next fight. If Errol gets the fight against the 6’5″ Fundora, he’ll need to lose some weight because he’s looking heavy right now.
Experts and fans alike are eagerly offering their predictions for this potential showdown. Many believe Spence's power and precision, combined with Garcia's strategic expertise, could create the perfect storm to challenge Fundora's reach and agility. It's a matchup that sparks a lot of debate and anticipation given the unpredictable and exciting nature of boxing
It would be better for Spence to begin trimming off weight now before he begins training camp so that he’s not using his valuable preparation time as a weight-loss farm.
Spence Needs New Training Approach
“If he reached out to me, I would definitely consider speaking and talking to him,” said trainer Robert Garcia to 210Boxing when asked if he’d like to train Errol Spence. “I would love to because those are challenges for me, too.
“Look at Marcos Maidana. He had the best paydays of his life when he came to me. Sometimes fighters need something like that [to come to a Mexican boxing gym]. Maybe Spence needs something like that.”
Robert would give Spence something different with his experience at training, and he could give him a lot of new tools to his game that he would need for a fight against Fundora or anyone at 154.
“He already has a great style. He was pound-for-pound, one of the best fighters in the world. It’s just little touches,” said Robert about Spence. “Honestly, it would be a challenge for me too. I wouldn’t mind. It would be a good challenge for me. I would love to talk to him to put something together, why not?”
Spence training for a crucial Fundora bout
Spence can’t be training himself for an important fight against Fundora because this guy is coming off a win against Tim Tszyu, and in 2022, he defeated Erickson Lubin. The fact that Fundora was good enough to beat those fighters shows that he’s not going to be an easy fight for Spence.
“I have a team, too, but I’ll talk to my team and everything. Why not? There are still so many things that he can still do,” said Garcia.
