Mark Magsayo Set for WBC Super Featherweight Title Eliminator Against Eduardo Ramirez
Former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo is set to face Eduardo Ramirez in a "WBC Super Featherweight title eliminator" on June 15th during the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin show in Las Vegas, according to a report by Salvador Rodriguez confirmed by Viva Promotions.
Magsayo (25-2, 17 KOs) is best remembered for ending Gary Russell Jr.'s long reign as WBC featherweight champion, capitalizing on Russell's arm injury to secure a narrow victory. However, Magsayo's tenure as champion was short-lived, as he lost the title in his first defense to Rey Vargas by a split decision. He then attempted to claim the interim title but fell short after a late fade against Brandon Figueroa.
In December, Magsayo made a strong comeback by defeating Isaac Avelar in his super featherweight debut, which earned him the WBC's no. 6 ranking. His opponent, Eduardo Ramirez (28-3-3, 13 KOs), currently ranked no. 8, has been on a five-fight winning streak after knocking out Leduan Barthelemy. Ramirez's attempt to move up in weight and challenge Isaac Cruz ended in a second-round defeat, but he has since rebounded with a win at 130 pounds.
The upcoming bout between Magsayo and Ramirez is poised to be a crucial step for both fighters in their pursuit of the WBC super featherweight title.
