Tokyo Boxing Event on September 3: A Night of Title Fights and Rising Stars

Tokyo ringside promotions returns to action September 3 for what equates as one of the bigger boxing cards in Japan with various title fights and prospects you need to know more about. Pound-for-pound star Naoya Inoue will defend his undisputed junior bantamweight title, and that's the pairing everyone has been waiting for.

Naoya Inoue vs TJ Doheny (Main Event)

In the main event of the evening, Japan's own Naoya Inoue ("The Monster") will put his undisputed junior featherweight championship on display against Ireland's TJ Doheny. Inoue, a taxonomist feared for his punching strength or skill in the ring who intimidates all divisions he enters. And now he defends his junior featherweight world title for the first time against Doheny, a former titleist.

His southpaw position and aggressive approach make Doheny a potentially difficult assignment for Inoue. This will be an all-out 12-round war and should see Inoue work to continue his rise in legendary-status lights behind friendly territory.

Co-Main Event: Yoshiki Takei vs Daigo Higa

In the other world title fight, Yoshiki Takei will defend his WBO bantamweight belt against former fly and ex-WBA titleist Daigo Higa. Takei, 20 a xx bantamweight on the rise (7-0), quickly made himself known for his aggressive style and knockout power. Higa's power and non-stop aggression also present dangers of their own.

This bout should be a slugfest between two heavy punchers, and both men will more than likely look to score the stoppage. With the bantamweight scene so fluid, it could very well be that both are just a win or two away from some of those bigger fights in 2018 and this weekend's clash is going to play a role in determining who can say they secured such victories.

They are pressuring, large hands heavyweights with a shared penchant for defense and each is trying to move up the divisional ladder as this could be considered an important fight in their own careers. His low-key style will be put to the test against Tsugawa's high-energy technical skills.
