Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis is on the verge of a world title opportunity, but first, he has a mission to defend his hometown. The U.S. Olympic silver medalist and lightweight contender will take on Argentina’s hard-hitting Gustavo Lemos in a 10-round main event on Friday, Nov. 8, at Norfolk’s Scope Arena, Virginia.
In the co-main event, WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. will put his title on the line against Puerto Rican power puncher Derrieck Cuevas.
The undercard will be a family affair for Davis, with both his brothers in action. Rising junior welterweight Kelvin “Night Night” Davis (13-0, 7 KOs) will clash with Yeis Solano (15-3, 10 KOs) in an eight-round bout. Meanwhile, Keyshawn’s younger brother, Keon Davis, will make his professional debut in a four-round welterweight contest.
The entire event, including the Davis-Lemos main card, will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S.
Keyshawn Davis (11-0, 7 KOs) enters this homecoming bout ranked No. 3 in the lightweight division by the WBO, IBF, and WBC. His rankings have been propelled by an outstanding 2023, starting with a sixth-round TKO of former two-division world champion Jose Pedraza in February. In July, he dominated Mexico's Miguel Madueño over 10 rounds at the Prudential Center in Newark. Davis is set to headline what will be Scope Arena’s most significant boxing event since Pernell Whitaker defended his title against Buddy McGirt in 1994.
Gustavo Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) makes his return to the lightweight division after two years away. The Buenos Aires native last fought at 135 pounds in March 2022, when he stopped former world champion Lee Selby in five rounds. After a dominant win in his hometown in December 2023, Lemos made his American debut in April 2024, losing a close decision to Richardson Hitchins in an IBF junior welterweight title eliminator. Now back at lightweight, Lemos is set to challenge another undefeated American in Davis.
Brian Norman Jr. (26-0, 20 KOs), boxing’s youngest male world champion, hails from Atlanta. The 23-year-old made a name for himself with a stunning 10th-round knockout of Giovani Santillan in May, winning the WBO interim title and later being elevated to full champion status in August. Norman faces his toughest test yet in Derrieck Cuevas (27-1-1, 19 KOs), the WBO’s No. 7-ranked contender, who enters his first world title fight riding a four-fight knockout streak. Cuevas’ knockout run began in December 2022 and has seen him dominate opponents across multiple countries, including Panama.
The Norfolk card also features rising lightweight star Abdullah Mason (15-0, 13 KOs) in an eight-round showdown with Dominican puncher Yohan Vasquez (26-5, 21 KOs). The 20-year-old Mason, from Cleveland, has knocked out all four of his opponents this year, all within four rounds or less.
Keyshawn Davis’ Olympic teammate and Washington, D.C. native, middleweight contender Troy “The Transformer” Isley (13-0, 5 KOs), will also return to his roots in a 10-round clash against Tyler “Hercules” Howard (20-1, 11 KOs). Isley won the NABO title in June with a unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Javier Martinez.
Rounding out the card, middleweight prospect Austin DeAnda (14-0, 10 KOs), from Amherst, Virginia, faces DeAundre Pettus (11-2, 6 KOs) in an eight-round contest.
