Chavez vs. Rodriguez Set for Saturday Showdown

Omar Chavez will face unbeaten Olympian Misael Rodriguez in a highly anticipated 10-round super middleweight main event this Saturday, January 25, at Arena Potosi in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. This all-Mexican showdown was initially scheduled for October 2024 but was canceled on fight night due to weight issues. Now, Chavez, the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, looks to settle unfinished business with Rodriguez, who captured a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics.

The Chavez-Rodriguez fight, along with the undercard bouts, will stream live exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

Chavez (41-8-1, 28 KOs) has been on a strong run since his loss to Rafael Amarillas Ortiz in June 2022, scoring three stoppages, including a second-round knockout of Michi Muñoz in May. Rodriguez (14-0, 7 KOs), who hasn’t fought in the U.S. since September 2019, returns to the ring after a 19-month layoff. His most recent win came by way of an eight-round unanimous decision over Ricardo Bañuelos Cernas in Chihuahua, Mexico.

In other action from Mexico, the undercard features several exciting matchups:

Luis Fernando Rodriguez (15-1, 14 KOs) vs. Jose Angel Amaro (11-0-1, 3 KOs) – 10 Rounds, Junior Featherweights

Juan Carlos Barrientos (6-4, 3 KOs) vs. Jorge Ascanio Martinez (10-1-1, 7 KOs) – 8 Rounds, Bantamweights

Axel Delgado Sanchez (2-1) vs. Tibet Carlos Ruiz (4-0-1, 4 KOs) – 4 Rounds, Featherweights

Camila Zamorano (10-0, 1 KO) vs. Yoselyn Perez Lopez (5-0-1) – 8 Rounds, Light Flyweights

Fernando Quiroz (8-0-1, 5 KOs) vs. Diego Briseño Portilla (8-0-1) – 8 Rounds, Junior Bantamweights

With a stacked card and some talented fighters, this Saturday promises to be an exciting night of boxing.
