Jaime Mungia has bold predictions for his upcoming fight against Surace

The road to a world title for Jaime Munguia continues in a familiar setting as the Mexican super middleweight star returns home this Saturday, December 14. He will face the unbeaten Bruno Surace in the 10-round main event at Estadio Caliente in Tijuana.

The Munguia-Surace fight will headline a live-streamed event exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S., starting at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. The 10-round co-feature will see WBC No. 1 junior featherweight contender Alan Picasso (30-0-1, 16 KOs) aiming to set himself up for a huge 2025 when he faces Ghana’s Isaac Sackey (26-2-2, 21 KOs).

Munguia (44-1, 35 KOs) is looking to cap off a busy 2024 campaign, which included stoppage victories over John Ryder and Erik Bazinyan, as well as a decision loss to Canelo Alvarez. Munguia most recently stopped Bazinyan in 10 rounds in September, just four months after his hard-fought 12-round battle with Canelo. This will be Munguia's first fight in Tijuana since February 2022.

Surace (25-0-2, 4 KOs), hailing from Marseille, France, has won 22 consecutive fights following two early-career draws. This will be his first fight outside France, and he enters on the back of the most significant win of his career—a 12th-round TKO over the previously undefeated Jhon Jader Obregon in December.

### What Munguia and Surace had to say at Thursday's press conference:

**Jaime Munguia:**

“He’s a strong fighter who throws a lot of combinations, so we have to be careful. I’ve studied him, and I’m confident in the work we've done. I’ll walk away with my hand raised in victory.”

“If I knew the exact round I could knock him out, I’d bet all my money on it. But I don’t know. It’s uncertain, but I can say with certainty that I will be looking for the knockout.”

“It’s a big weight on my shoulders to fight in this stadium in front of all my people. It’ll be emotional, but I have to stay focused, fight intelligently, and I’m prepared to do that and put on a great show.”

“We’re focused on everything—improving my boxing skills, physical conditioning, and the mental aspects as well.”

**Bruno Surace:**

“I’ve watched many of his fights since he was a junior middleweight. He’s an aggressive fighter, very much in the Mexican tradition. We are focused on every detail because every detail matters in a big fight. We’re ready for a war.”

“I’m very excited to be in his hometown. There’ll be a lot of noise, and the atmosphere will be incredible. The pressure is on him.”

“I love this city. The energy here is amazing, and I’m excited to be here.”

“He’s an outstanding fighter—aggressive and very offensive. I’ll need to gather a lot of information in the early rounds to develop my strategy. But I’ve watched many videos of him, and I know how I need to box him.”
