Tokyo silver medalist Ben Whittaker is set to avenge his most recent outing when he rematches Liam Cameron on April 20 at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, headlining a stacked Boxxer show that also features Frazer Clarke, Lee Cutler, Sam Eggington, and Tyler Denny.
Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KO), who entered the professional ranks under the spotlight after a standout Olympic run—highlighted by a victory over Imam Khataev—struggled to fully impress in his initial pro contests. Those concerns peaked during his last fight with Cameron (23-6-1, 10 KO). Despite Whittaker’s flashy skills, Cameron withstood the offense and appeared to be coming on strong late. The bout took a chaotic turn in the sixth round when both fighters tumbled over the ropes, leaving Whittaker unable to continue due to a leg injury. With the stoppage, the judges declared the contest a technical draw.
Though Cameron was understandably frustrated with the inconclusive result, he ended up securing a Queensberry contract and is now set for a bigger payday in the hotly anticipated rematch. Whittaker, meanwhile, hopes to leave no doubt this time.
In the co-feature, heavyweight Frazer Clarke (8-1-1, 6 KO) looks to rebound from a devastating loss to Fabio Wardley, which left Clarke with a broken facial bone. He will face Ghanaian puncher Ebenezer Tetteh (23-2, 20 KO). Elsewhere on the card, Lee Cutler (15-1, 7 KO) battles the seasoned Sam Eggington (35-9, 20 KO), while Tyler Denny (19-3-3, 1 KO) takes on Elvis Ahorgah (13-3, 12 KO) in what should serve as a tune-up for the middleweight contender.
All eyes will be on Whittaker and Cameron as they look to settle the score once and for all, and the undercard promises action from start to finish on what is shaping up to be a must-watch event in Birmingham.
