Irish light heavyweight prospect Thomas Myers Shipping Up To Boston to fight Saturday

Irish light heavyweight prospect Thomas Myers (2-0, 0 KOs) is continuing a longstanding tradition of Irish fighters who have traveled across the Atlantic to build their professional careers in the Boston area.

The 28-year-old Sligo native is set to face Tyrone Albert Adams (0-2) in a four-round bout this Saturday night at Boston Harley-Davidson in Revere, just north of Boston. In doing so, he follows in the footsteps of notable Irish boxers such as former world champion Steve Collins and the man who famously retired Mike Tyson, Kevin McBride—both of whom fought out of Boston by way of Ireland.

According to Myers’ new manager, Kevin Dever (Kevin Dever Sports Management), Myers was eager to make the move stateside. “Thomas reached out to me, and I was immediately impressed,” Dever said. “He’s charismatic, respectful, and can really fight. I believe he can help revive the Irish boxing scene in Boston, New York, and other East Coast cities where many Irish fans live. He’s an exciting fighter with an entertaining style. While I’m not saying he’s the sole answer, Thomas is definitely part of bringing Irish boxing back in the United States.”

Myers began boxing eight years ago under the guidance of his father, Thomas, Jr. He went on to represent Ireland internationally as a member of the Irish National Team, competing in Italy, England, and Denmark. Despite a five-year break from the sport due to the Covid pandemic and other setbacks, Myers turned pro on August 24, 2024, defeating 107-fight veteran Harry Matthews by unanimous decision in Newcastle, England.

“Irish boxing hasn’t always offered many opportunities,” Myers noted. “Because of that, a lot of us go abroad for fights. I made my pro debut in England and now I’m heading to Boston. It’s going to be huge, especially on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Fans will get to see the skill level I bring, and hearing the Irish crowd roaring will just push me to perform even better. I plan on making a real statement so that, next time, even more Irish fans will come out to see me fight.”

With Myers in action on Saturday night, Irish eyes will be smiling both in Boston and across the Atlantic as supporters watch this rising talent showcase his abilities.
