Former world champion and Australian boxing star Tim Tszyu is set to make his highly anticipated return to the ring as he takes on rising contender Joey Spencer in a super welterweight showdown. The bout headlines PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video, streaming live on Saturday, April 5 (U.S. date and time) from the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, Australia.
The event kicks off at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, streaming exclusively for Prime members in the United States and select countries. New users can sign up or start a free 30-day trial to watch all the action live.
Promoted by No Limit Boxing and The Rose Brothers, in association with TGB Promotions, the fight promises high stakes as Tszyu looks to rebound from a tough 2024 campaign, while Spencer aims to secure the biggest victory of his career.
A High-Stakes Battle for Tszyu and Spencer
“Tim Tszyu does not take easy fights,” said George Rose, CEO of No Limit Boxing. “He wanted the toughest challenge available, and that’s exactly what Joey Spencer brings. This is an all-risk fight for Tim, but that’s how he operates. Joey is coming to rip everything away from Tim, and that’s what makes this fight unmissable.”
TGB Promotions President Tom Brown echoed that sentiment: “Tszyu is always in exciting fights, and when he faces the hungry and explosive Joey Spencer, it will be fireworks. The atmosphere in Australia will be electric, and both fighters will be at their best.”
Tim Tszyu: The Road to Redemption
The 30-year-old Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) returns to the ring after a turbulent 2024, where he suffered back-to-back defeats against IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev and WBO/WBC champion Sebastian Fundora. The latter fight saw Tszyu battling through one of the most gruesome cuts in recent boxing history, only to lose a split decision.
Now, the Sydney-born fighter is determined to reclaim his spot at the top of the super welterweight division.
“This is my redemption tour,” said Tszyu. “I’m coming back stronger, hungrier, and ready to prove a point. No tune-ups—just straight into the fire against a dangerous fighter like Joey Spencer. If I have to walk through fire to get back on top, so be it. This is what I live for.”
Tszyu, the son of International Boxing Hall of Famer Kostya Tszyu, has made a name for himself with dominant victories over Tony Harrison, Brian Mendoza, and Carlos Ocampo in 2023. He first introduced himself to U.S. audiences in March 2022, when he defeated Terrell Gausha in his American debut.
Joey Spencer Looks to Make a Statement
At just 24 years old, Joey Spencer (19-1, 11 KOs) has already proven himself as a formidable talent in the division. A two-time PBC Prospect of the Year, Spencer has rebounded from his only career loss to Jesus Ramos Jr. with a three-fight winning streak, including victories over Marcelo Fabian Bzowski, Janer Gonzalez, and Miguel Angel Hernandez.
“I’ve watched Tszyu for a long time—his style, his mentality—the guy’s a real warrior,” said Spencer. “He takes on all comers, no excuses. But I’m coming to take him out. I’m not here just to share the ring with him. I’m coming to win. Period.”
With Tszyu seeking redemption and Spencer looking for a career-defining victory, this matchup is set to deliver an unforgettable night of action on April 5.
