In what was suppose to be the toughest fight of his career against one of the light heavyweight division's top contender, Sergey Kovalev made what looked to be easy work of Nathan Cleverly Saturday night with a 4th round TKO victory. The victory makes Kovalev the new WBO light heavyweight champion. Kovalev controlled the fight easily from the opening bell with quick, hard combinations as he outworked Cleverly for the first two rounds. In the third, Kovalev dropped Cleverly twice with powerful right hands as Cleverly struggled to make it out of the round. The referee stopped the fight in the fourth round. Kovalev improved to 22-0, 20 KO's. Cleverly suffered the first defeat of his career falling to 26-1. Kovalev continues to dominate in the light heavyweight division, and is considered by many as the man to beat in his weightclass.
