Now that Andy Lee doesn't have an opponent for April 26th he's asking Matthew Macklin to step in. Lee was scheduled to face Gennady Golovkin on the 26th but the death of Golovkin's father has made him pull out of the fight. Lee still wants to fight on that day and has called out Macklin to step in to face him.
"Now that neither of us have a world title fight, there's no better time than now. Let's fight!!" Lee tweeted to Macklin. Before Lee sent that tweet out, Macklin responded to a question on Twitter about him possibly stepping in.
"I've always been open to the fight with Andy." Macklin said.
Promotor Lou Dibella is very interested to see the fight and has called on HBO to help.
"How about HBO Boxing subsitutes Lee/Macklin...a barn burner!!" Dibella said via twitter.
