Stevenson survives scare, Lemieux destroys Guerrero

It wasn't a 25-1 fight like the odds makers had it, that's for sure. However Adonis Stevenson retained the WBC light heavyweight championship by defeating a very tough Andrzej Fonfara via Unanimous Decision at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, CA. Scores were 115-110 twice and 116-109.

Stevenson controlled the early part of the fight as he dropped Fonfara twice before the eight round. By backing up, using the lead left hand, and countering Fonfara early on, Stevenson appeared to be on his way to an easy victory. Fonfara was down once in the second round from a straight left hand to the head, and again in the fifth from a straight left hand to the body. However, after weathering the storm Fonfara continued to fight on, and in the ninth round he hit Stevenson with a hard right hand that sent him down to the canvas changing the momentum of the fight.

Tired and hurt, Stevenson was able to finish the round. He came back strong to finish the fight as both fighter's stood toe to toe landing shot after shot. Neither one backed down for the final three rounds, and both got hit with big shots in the eleventh and twelfth. The fight was very exciting for one that was expected to be a bore with a quick knockout win for Stevenson.

The Co-Main event only lasted three rounds as David Lemieux made some noise in the middleweight division by crushing Fernando Guerrero within the first three rounds. Lemieux's power was evident from the opening bell as he managed to catch Guerrero with huge shots that stunned him. By the third round, Guerrero had been cut and down a few times from Lemieux's power punches.

Opening the card light middleweight prospect Jermell Charlo dominated Charlie Ota to a unanimous decision win. Scores were 118-109 twice and 115-111.
