Newly crowned middleweight champion and Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto will return to the ring December 13th, according to what Bob Arum told boxingscene.com earlier today. The fight will be held at Madison Square Garden against an opponent that is yet to be determined. Cotto will be meeting with Top Rank next week to pick an opponent to face for his return.
While many people were hoping the opponent would be Saul Canelo Alvarez, Arum told Boxingscene that he was not in the running. Arum said that a Canelo-Cotto fight would be something he wants to do in Spring of 2015. Right now it's unclear whether or not Arum is planning to have the fight on PPV as well. Depending on the opponent there is a good chance the fight could fall on regular HBO. Arum made it clear that he has been disappointed with recent PPV numbers and linked it to there just being to many of them in 2014.
