Mayweather-Maidana II estimates 925K buys

It seems that the PPV buys that flowed through for Mayweather-Maidana II wasn’t as bad as it could have been. With everything going on outside of the ring, including a boycott of Mayweather’s fights due to the recent media trend on domestic violence, “Mayhem” managed to bring in around 925K PPV buys according to Yahoo’s Kevin Iole.

The number isn’t bad considering everything that was up against it including an undercard that did not feature the likes of Amir Khan and Adrien Broner this time around. Ray Rice’s domestic abuse situation helped draw a lot of negative attention towards Floyd before the fight however that may have actually helped his numbers a bit. The 925K is a small increase from the first fight as more people tuned in to possibly hope that they could watch him lose for the first time in his career. The interest of the first fight appeared to carry over into the second showdown. The number is still well below what Showtime wants, and this could force a bigger fight in 2015.
