While a fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto remains on top of the list of Gennady Golovkin's options, manager Tom Loeffler expressed last night that they would likely eye a fight against WBO World title holder Andy Lee, or the winner of the fight between David Lemieux and Hassan N'dam next. Loeffler is well aware the Canelo and Cotto are heading to a showdown in the fall as long as Cotto takes care of business on June 6th. Team Golovkin isn't going to wait around, expressing that GGG will be in the ring two more times before the year is over.
Being that a fight against Floyd Mayweather is not going to happen the next option for Golovkin would be to clear out the middleweight division. Golovkin isn't interested in moving up to 168 or down to 154 unless it's for a PPV type fight. And even then, Golovkin isn't moving down to 154 for Canelo or Cotto. His only reason for moving down to 154 would be to face Floyd Mayweather. Team Golovkin stated that they will wait for the winner of the expected Cotto-Canelo showdown, and push as hard as they can to get the winner in early of 2016.
