According to a report from ESPN, a fight between junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KO's) and former world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KO's) could be on deck for August 1st on ESPN. The fight is likely to take place at the Barclay's Center with Danny Jacobs as the co-feature. The fight could be Garcia's debut as a welterweight, and will be Paulie's first fight since being KO'ed by Shawn Porter in early of 2014.
Garcia hasn't been a fan favorite as of late, and the reaction to news of this fight won't do him any favors. Most believe he's lost two of his last three with his only credible win since defeating Lucas Matthysse came at the hands of Rod Salka, a fighter not ranked in the top 75 at the time they fought. Malignaggi hasn't been in the ring in over a year and has been past his prime for awhile now. However, Malignaggi's style could make this fight interesting. The fight hasn't been finalized. Danny Garcia tweeted to fan that the fight is not true, yet Dan Rafeal of ESPN who reported it is hardly ever wrong when it comes to information like this.
