Industry rumors are Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) could be facing Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) October 3rd as the main event for the Broner- Allakhverdiev PBC bill. In a separate bout on a different date WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) could be facing Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) . These are two great matchup for boxing fans and the casual onlookers. Lately the Premier Boxing Champions has been getting a lot of criticism about their match ups. Just recently we saw Lucian Bute defeat a very underrated Andrea Di Luisa and a snoozer Steve Cunningham vs Antonio Tarver fight to a draw. On deck we have Stevenson fighting an very unknown Karpency and Quillin taking on little known Zerafa.
If the Thurman vs Porter & Garcia vs Guerrero are made this will be a step in the right direction for Premier Boxing Champions to continue to increase their TV rating and get the support back from the boxing community.
That being said I understand what Haymon is trying to accomplish for the sport. Its not a bad idea and Boxing is back on network TV for the curious to average boxing fan. Lets hope that it does not hurt the mainstreams perception of boxing more then it already has.
