Smith KOs Thompson in 7th to win WBO title

Liam Smith (21-0, 11 KOs) scored a seventh round KO over John Thompson (17-2, 6 KO) to win the vacant WBO world jr middleweight title on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. The fight started out with Thompson using his boxing skills to win the early rounds. Smith came on strong as the fight went on throwing some big punches and landing well. By the sixth round Smith had Thompson really hurt and it looked like the fight was be over late in the sixth. As the seventh round start Smith knew he had Thompson hurt and went in for the kill and laid out Thompson face down with a big right hand. Time was 1:44, Smith improves to 22-0-1 (12KOs) with the win. Smith is the first of the famous fighting Smith family from Liverpool to win a world title.

The Smith brothers: Paul Smith fought @ super middleweight against Arthur Abraham twice. Stephen Smith is a mandatory challenger to super featherweight champ Jose Pedraza. Callum, faces Rocky Fielding next month at home in Liverpool, in a fight that could lead to a title shot.
