It wasn't the prettiest fight that you'll ever see but for the first time in ten years the heavyweight division has a new face. Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KO's) did the improbable Saturday night in Germany as he defeated Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 52 KO's) by unanimous decision to become the new heavyweight champion of the world. Scores were 115-112, 115-112, and 116-111.
The fight wasn't exciting by any means. It was at times dreadful to watch. However, Fury had a game plan that he needed to beat Klitschko and he stuck to it. He took away Klitshcko's jab by moving around, throwing out his own jab, and constantly flustering the aggressive Klitschko. Fury's reach and height were too much for Klitschko to overcome, who ironically himself spent must of his career frustrating his opponents with his own jab and movement. Klitschko looked like a lost dog in the ring as Fury was able to tag him over and over with the jab.
Klitschko hasn't lost a fight since 2004. His dominance in the division has finally come to an end. Most fans have turned away from the division due to Klitshcko's dominance. Many felt that he was too boring to watch to show any interest. While Fury wasn't exciting tonight by winning the title, most of his fights are fun to watch. Fury also has a very colorful personality that many people love or hate. This may be the change the division needs to give it a spark.
