Word on the boxing streets is that Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KO's) has been offered a fight to face Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KO's). The fight would be Ward's first official bout a the light heavyweight division. It would also be Ward's first meaningful fight since 2012 when he defeated light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson. Ward was supposed to fight on the Cotto-Canelo undercard last month but was forced to withdrawl from the fight due to an injury.
HBO is looking to have Ward take on light heavyweight King Sergey Kovalev next year. Barrera is a tough opponent that should give Ward some good work in preparation for Kovalev. Whether or not Barrera takes the fight remains to be seen but a win against Ward would surely boost the career of the rising contender.
