Deontay Wilder is set to take on replacement Gerald Washington on February 25th. Wilder, was originally suppose to fight Andrzej Wawrzyk, who then tested positive for a banned substance. This is not the first time this has happen to an opponent of Wilder. Alexander Povetkin, was suppose to fight him last year and tested positive for a banned substance.
Wilder, has not fought since he suffered a torn right biceps muscle and fracturing his right hand against Chris Arreola last July. Then the Povetkin fight was canceled meaning Deontay Wilder, has not been in the ring for 6 months.
Gerald Washington has a recoded of 18-0-1, 12 KOs. He is 34-year-old, managed by Al Haymon & ranked number 10 by the World Boxing Council. His last fight was this past Jule when he knocked out Ray Austin within 4 rounds. Washington has some notable wins on his resume, Eddie Chambers, Nagy Aguilera and Travis Walker. Sporting a 63% knockout ratio Washington, is not push over and is good on his feet. This will be his biggest test of his career.
The fight is the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes Saturday, February 25, from Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Birmingham, Alabama.
