Cotto known for his aggressive griddy style is facing Kamegai who isn't tentative, either. It's the set up for a quality fight for boxing fans where both guy will slug it out til one drops.
Miguel Cotto, a seasoned veteran well past his peak years is still fighting on and maybe you can all this a "tune up" fight to something bigger before he retires from the sport. As he approaches 36-years-old he has five losses on his record to only the best of the best Canelo, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Trout and Margarito. He is coming off a lost to Canelo in 2015, Cotto lost by a UD, scores, Burt A. Clements 110-118 | Dave Moretti 109-119 | John McKaie 111-117. He was out of the ring all of 2016 taking a break and now looking for the last couple BIG fights.
Yoshihiro Kamegai, has an interesting record, he has three loses to Johan Perez, Robert Guerrero and Alfonso Gomez. Not exactly the same top level loses Cotto has. He fought twice in 2016 against Jesus Soto Karass in both fights. First fight was a draw and the rematch Kamegai won by a TKO, Soto Karass down in round eight and retires in the corner, California rules: TKO.
Prediction
Miguel Cotto TKO over Yoshihiro Kamegai by the seventh round. Look, Kamegai is going to come out swinging and Cotto will have answers. Kamegai does not have the resumes or the experience that Cotto does. Nor is he at the same level. This is a tune up fight for Cotto who is looking for his last big payday.
