Will Golovkin vs Canelo Rematch be any different?

Short answer ..no. This is the kind of fight I wouldn’t bet on. Like the 1st fight It’s a real 50/50 fight. However if you want to get technical GGG is given a 61.5% implied probability of winning the fight. Both fighters had their moments and Both fighters will have them again.

Their first fight took place on September 16th 2017 @ T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. The fight ended with a split draw, scores Adalaide Byrd 118-110 | Dave Moretti 113-115 | Don Trella 114-114. With the scoring being very controversial as Adalaide Byrd score of 118-110 gave it to Canelo as a landslide.

The rematch was rescheduled for May 5th of 2018 until Canelo tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. Alvarez, who was training in his hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico, provided urine samples on Feb. 17th and Feb. 20th, both tests came back positive for trace amounts of clenbuterol, according VADA. Team Canelo blamed it on meat contamination that has impacted dozens of athletes in Mexico.

Now one year later the rematch is set for September 15th @ T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

The question: Will this fight be any different? As I stated in the first paragraph.. No. Rematches in boxing are often the same. The other question.. Will the one-year layoff affect Alvarez or will he put on a legendary performance?

Golovkin always starts slow, Canelo always starts strong. Golovkin ends strong as most of his knockouts come after the 5th round. Canelo always looks tired and gets gassed by the 7th & 8th round. This will not change in the second fight. It’s not that one boxer completely obliterated the other — in fact, it was a very close bout. Golovkin spent nine of the 12 rounds pressing Alvarez up against the ropes, eating few shots in between. I expect we will see the same thing. There was excellent, high-level boxing the likes we would expect from top fighters and we will expect to see again. Look... this is 50/50 fight and if they fight a 3rd time it's still a 50/50 fight.

The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

Tickets for Canelo vs. GGG 2 are on sale now, and are priced at $5,000, $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, $800, $700, $500 and $300, not including applicable service charges and taxes. There will be a limit of eight (8) per person at the $5,000, $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, $800 and $700 price levels with a limit of two (2) per person at the $500 and $300 price levels.
