Son of former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield to make pro debut on Canelo-Kovalev undercard

Evan Holyfield, the son of former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, will make his professional debut on the undercard of the light heavyweight world title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev on Nov. 2 (DAZN) at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, FightNights.com has learned.

The bout is expected to take place at the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds.

Main Events, which signed Evan to a promotional deal in July, promoted the elder Holyfield, the only fighter in boxing history to win the undisputed championship in two weight classes, for a majority of his career.

The younger Holyfield's route to boxing was not a direct one.

His mother, Irvin, did not want to see her son fight and purposefully enrolled him in other sports like gymnastics, baseball, basketball, and martial arts — anything but boxing.

But when Evan was around nine years old, his father took him and two siblings to the gym to learn some basics about boxing. On that same day, all three of them participated in their first amateur matchups.

Since then, Holyfield has dedicated his life to the sweet science. When his friends were going to football and basketball practice, he was going to the gym every day, the same repetition that his Hall of Fame father knows all too well.

With 80 amateur fights, including a semi-finals appearance for the U.S. team, Holyfield is ready for his pro debut.

Aside from being a boxer with a quick jab and crisp power, Holyfield is also a published author. His first book, 12 Rounds to Winning for the Youth, was published in February, and is available for purchase on Amazon for $50.00.
