Mauricio Herrera not thinking about boxing, leaning towards retirement

Former world title challenger Mauricio Herrera is thinking about hanging up the gloves, FightNights.com has learned.

Herrera (24-9, 7 KO's), of Riverside, California, got destroyed by Vergil Ortiz Jr. in the third-round of the chief support bout of the Canelo Alvarez-Daniel Jacobs middleweight title unification fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Prior to the fight, Herrera had never previously been stopped.

Herrera took on then-junior welterweight world champion Danny Garcia in March 2014 and lost a heavily-disputed majority decision as he appeared to outbox Garcia. He returned the following July and won a majority decision against Johan Perez to win an interim 140-pound belt.

He also has an underrated victory on his resume. Herrera handed Russian slugger Ruslan Provodnikov, a former junior welterweight world titlist, his first professional defeat in November 2017.

Herrera is expected to address his boxing future sometime this week.
